About of Friends of Don Bosco

 

INTRODUCTION

Friends of Don Bosco (FDB) is a local Non-Profit and Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO) initiated and established on the 16th of June, 1998 by a past pupil of Don Bosco at Mafinga in the Iringa region in Tanzania. His name is Evance Tegete.                    The center takes care of orphans and marginalized children and youth aiming at helping them to get an education.                           The center was registered through the government in 2001.

 

MISSION:                                                                               The FDB organization mission is to create and support programs, that provide relief to orphans and vulnerable children and youth of every race and culture with respect to any religious or spiritual beliefs of the respective individuals. Hence giving hope and reduce tension to the targeted group by meeting emotional, social and material  needs.

 

VISION:

To enable individuals to take responsibility for there own future in the modern world through education and hence be self sufficient and independent.

 

 

KEY WORDS

The Friends of Don Bosco’s key words are ‘Child welfare, staff commitment and partnership(friendship)’. We believe that child welfare is the first priority followed by staff commitment under any circumstances, however the two can only be reached through partnership with other organizations like NGOs, CBOs, Government agencies etc.

 

 

Aims & objectives:

 

¨         To improve and stimulate national efforts to host and protect orphans and street children

 

¨         To end passivity and enable children to acquire an education.

 

¨         To demonstrate care and concern for HIV/AIDS Victims through counseling, legal support or protection of the rights of children who are living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

 

¨         To develop a center to support the existing homeless children.

 

¨         To conduct training programs aiming at preparing and involving young men and women in national development activities.

 

¨         To help in the improvement and development of the youth sector in Tanzania.

 

¨         To organize seminars, workshops, conferences, walks, campaigns, symposia and projects for the development of the abovementioned activities, aims and objectives.

 

¨         To undertake research, outreaches, and unification which are useful for the implementation of the aims and objectives of the trust and other organizations that are partners of the trust.

 

¨         To initiate programs that address youth in society, especially those affected adversely by their environment.

 

¨         To encourage other people and groups to participate in the aims and objectives of the trust.

 

¨         To organize and involve children and youth in leisure program’s such as singing, dancing, drama and various sports.  This will increase knowledge and enable them to discover their different talents and develop them.

 

 

 

Curently FDBs Dar-Es-Salaam based home and its branch in Makorola Kombezi–Tanga Region has a total of 200 vulnerable children and youth in need as shown below.

Out of 200 vulnerable children and youth in need in both centers, only 30 of them are living in the center in Dar Es Salaam.
